To: All Members
Greetings, Everyone -
Those of you who have been patiently awaiting our new site will be rewarded very soon. I promise!
Last month's Newsletter closed with the comment, Next monthly newletter should find the website fully functional, ready to welcome the Club's newest members. We missed the August 31st deadline by at least a week. Although we have a long-standing and excellent relationship with the company that has, in the past, processed our credit-card transactions, I made the mistake of listening to a salesman who has dealt with our new bank (our former bank's name changed so many times that we decided to patronize a smaller local one). Needless to say, after two weeks waiting to hear back from this guy, we decided to pick up where we left off. Now back on track, we feel confident that our updated automated website (now written in php, for the information of the geeks among us) will be online by the 8th of September.
As I write this on the next-to-last day of August, we are watching the progress of a really deadly hurricane named Gustav as it leaves the western tip of Cuba and heads for the U.S. Gulf Coast. Here in Sarasota, we have again been spared. Unfortunately, we know that it is only a matter of time until our own shoreline is rearranged by one of these storms. I shudder to think of the destruction that will accompany such a storm, given the huge increase in population and construction Florida has experienced. It may come here this year, or it may not come here for decades.
As soon as the new site is up and running, we are sending out an email to the last known email address of several thousand members around the world. You may receive a message containing a new login and password which will enable you to renew your profile (if you wish to have one) and reconfigure your Personal Data Page, including an updated photo (younger looking, of course).
The September Newsletter will come out in roughly a week, when the website is online. It will contain information about our plans for providing interesting features and tips for Club members on how to get the most out of your online experience. This isn't your grandmother's online social networking site (she didn't have one). And it doesn't intend to be like the one's your kids thrill to (assuming you have kids old enough to be online unsupervised).
I apologize for the delay in getting this thing launched and ask you to be patient and come back to check us out again in a few days.
With best wishes to everyone,
Stewart
